Biography

Evil Ebenezer is “the best new voice in Canadian rap” (Exclaim Magazine.)

It’s a bold statement that Evil’s doing his best to prove by relentlessly touring to perform for rowdy fans and still finding time to release award nominated music. He finds himself the voice of a generation of grizzled underground emcees who didn’t catapult to fame through blog hype and clever PR tactics; rather through hard work, dedication and conviction.

The Canadian music industry has recognized Evil’s efforts with a Leo Award for “Best Music Video” and four Western Canadian “Best Hip Hop Album” Nominations in three years (2x in 2012 for The Birds & Zzbra.) A master of cadence, Evil captures the neurotic soul of our times with eccentric dysfunction, humor and darkness, all told with his trademark smooth delivery.

With numerous accolades and a glowing resume including over 250 tour dates in North America and Europe in the last two years alone, you’d think that Evil would be elbow-deep in bling, bitches and riches; Right? Wrong. There is a whole world of hidden heartbreak, lonely nights on the road, hunger pains and inter-personal drama. Worse still, the soul-crushing indifference of friends and family. Through it all Evil has brilliantly channeled his decade of growth as an artist and human being with a sincere honesty that’s rare in current hip hop. Evil lists his fellow contemporary emcees Macklemore, Slug, Classified, Snak The Ripper, and Bliss n Eso for, “showing me it’s okay to bare my soul in my music, scars and all, and find an appreciative audience. I don’t have to front; my fans accept me for who I am. Their support means everything to me.”

Evil Ebenezer catapulted into 2012 releasing three critically acclaimed free mixtapes (The Birds, Penguin EP & Kush Up’s EP with protégé Merkules) and his successful joint album, Zzbra, with fellow Battleaxe Warrior, Moka Only (Swollen Members.) He’s riding a wave of creative inspiration motivated by the heightened level of emcee competition in his native city of Vancouver, B.C. With the aforementioned Macklemore’s mainstream indie success story placing the hip hop spotlight on the Pacific Northwest, Evil is keen to shine the light a little further north. He’s already planning his next series of mixtapes leading up to his fourth album release in 2013.

In preparation for his coming mixtape series/album Evil Ebenezer has retreated to record at a mountain lair in Whistler, B.C. to, “eliminate distractions and focus on creating my best work yet. I’m ready to grow as an artist and open new avenues with this record. I want more sponsorships, huge festival gigs, radio play, and the tv shine that I’ve been building towards. I’m trying to keep an Usain Bolt career pace. I’ve got the right team around me, I have great sponsors in Ephin Apparel and Cariboo Brewing and I’m ready to shock the world!”
